Looking suitably grim, Air Chief Marshal Sir Arthur Harris ("Bomber" Harris), from February 1942, commander of RAF Bomber Command, glares into the camera across his desk. Harris was a WW1 fighter ace with the Royal Flying Corps/RAF, with five confirmed kills. He continued to serve in the RAF through the interwar period, and it was at this stage of his career that he developed his interest in aerial bombardment.
