You´re right. I have read that some aces waxed their planes to get more speed out of them. And some german planes were painted with gloss paint for same reason.

Well if you look at the ground under the plane it's wet so I'm guessing it just got done raining that would explain the plane having a gloss look.

Well since the canopy is dried and so is most of the ground I'd say that Ostuf W is right and it's waxed or painted high gloss. Because the rain would have run off the sides easily
