There's a famous picture of Honecker and Breschnew doing their thing.

Something strange to have on a soviet propaganda poster if one thinks about the fact that the soviet regime went to great lenghts to supress religion. Ironic, to say the least....

The orthodox kiss? Strange, I have never seen any orthodox person kiss another in the mouth in the way of a greeting etc. Atleast the Serbs I know. They kiss 3 times, but always in the cheek.

Let me use an expressive female response I sometimes hear: "Yuck!"

Was wondering about that Neutral, thought it might be something similar to the European version of kissing on the cheeks. Although to me the "West Ukrainian" looks like Omar Sharif from Doctor Zhivago.

Unfortunately, since my Spanish is not good, and my Portuguese worse, my reading on these subjects is somewhat constrained. One point - historical studies in both countries were greatly damaged by decades of dictatorship. Great credit is due to scholars from both countries for their work in reviving these fields of study since the dictatorships in question disintegrated. Best regards, JR.
