Private sector food propaganda.

National Army Museum, United Kingdom/Bovril manufacturers.

Land Girl checks her watch; advertisement encourages her to have Bovril for lunch. Bovril is a low-cost beef extract paste that can be used to make a sort of soup, or as a spread on bread or crackers. It can also be used as a sort of stock base in stews. The product is still on the market in Britain and Ireland at any rate. This may be a private ad., but I am sure that the Ministry of Food would have approved. Would Bovril keep you going ? Not being a nutritionist, I could not venture an opinion. One is reminded of a joke about a certain breakfast cereal, to the effect that it is perfectly nutritious when sprinkled on food. Whatever about that, a Bovril break could certainly keep the Land Girl feeling full. Possible recipe for her lunch - mug of Bovril past stirred into a mug of hot water, with a couple of slices of white bread torn into the cup. I can swear to that. Not sure, by the way, why the bull in the cartoon is looking so happy at the prospect of being converted into Bovril ... Best regards, JR
