If they are going to fire that mortar at that elevation the enemy can't be far off! A "Steilgeschoss"(shortrange shot). Grenadiers from Division Großdeutschland in a Schützenpanzer Sd. Kfz. 251/2 with a 8 cm Schweres Granatenwerfer. Picture was taken in the autumn in 1943 by PK-Kriegsberichter Bauer in Northern Russia.
