German submarine U-576 was a Type VIIC U-boat of Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine during World War II. She carried out five patrols, sinking four ships of 15,450 gross register tons (GRT)and damaging two more of 19,457 GRT. She was sunk in July 1942 by depth charges from two US aircraft and gunfire from a merchant ship, near the East Coast (30 miles from Cape Hatteras, North Carolina) of the United States. The wreck was discovered in August 2014.

German submarine U-2326 was a Type XXIII U-boat of Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine duringWorld War II.
On 14 May 1945, she surrendered to the British Navy at Dundee, Scotland.

The end of the war in Europe on 7 May 1945 saw many of Germany's U-boat fleet still at sea. On 12 May, Varian rendezvoused with one of these, the U-805, and a party from the destroyer escort, led by Lt. (jg.) Earle D. Stevenson, USNR, boarded the submarine and brought her to the east coast.
The U-805 was operating in the West Atlantic as part of the Seewolf group, when she received orders to make for an Allied port in order to surrender. The U-boat reached Portsmouth, New Hampshire, where the crew surrendered and handed the boat over to the US Navy.
