British heavy anti-aircraft position opens fire on German night raiders, London, 20 September 1940. In these early days, when British night-fighter capacity was little more than a shadow, London and other cities were heavily dependent on batteries such as this for defence. Such batteries were crewed, for the most part, by second-line troops, Home Guards, and levies of young women. Best regards, JR.
