U.S. Army Major General Charles Hunter Gerhardt sitting on his staff Jeep for a photo on the French countryside, Normandy, 1944. -  Gen. Gerhardt was in command of the U.S. 29th Infantry Division from 1943 until the end of the war in Europe in May, 1945.  Interestingly, Gerhardt's birthday was on June 6, which made D-Day his 49th birthday.
