The Anti-Semitism in the Army's reluctance to distribute medals deserved and requested by officers for their men, such as my father who was to receive the silver star along with his officer who overtook and captured under fire 300 Germans without any backup except six other men in his unit, and he took pillboxes and their Germans without killing them, to preserve life, vs. rampant killings, and he and the captain got word, that "we're out of silver, we're sending the bronze stars instead." Then the captain fought for his and my father's deserved silver stars and he got only one in the future and my father told him to keep it, he wasn't interested in it at that point, it was just a medal. It is outrageous how corrupt and dishonest and hateful some of the officials were, and how my father as a scout found Ohrdruff and notified his men, and they checked it out and notified higher ups and then Patton and Ike took credit for finding it, when it was my father, a Jewish soldier from the Bronx and Altoona, PA, who on duty saw a man gesticulating wildly, assessed the situation and the man and went to see what he was indicating, and it was Ordruff. Samuel J. Kirshner, PFC was the soldier who discovered it, in the 89th Infantry Division, my father a Jewish soldier. He should have gotten credit where credit was due! Corruption at the top prevented it.

Just think, each one of these shy looking kids killed a lot of Germans. I like the one at the far left with the sunglasses...too cool for the rest of em.
