    The subject of USAAF interior colours is fraught with examples and counter examples. Note that this B17 is bare aluminium throughout even though the exterior is painted. Some B24s had chromate yellow ribs & stringers and bare metal skin. B29 photos show them to have green chromate interiors in various shades depending on how the contractor coated their items.

    Obviously a posed shot with the aircraft firmly on the ground. At operating altitude, he wouldn't have any skin exposed whatsoever. Note spare ammo container by gunner's knee. This is an early model B17 with opening gun windows. Later versions had fixed perspex and ammo was belt fed from large boxes fixed to the fuselage, removing the need to change ammo containers during combat.
