He was not a supporter of Hitler but was a sympathiser of the early Nazi party.Infact he was a target of the Nazi regime as he was named in The Black Book. This was a list of people who were to be arrested after Germany "had" invaded Britain.

Baden-Powell does appear to have been attracted to Naziism in its early days - he appears to have been quite enthused with "Mein Kampf". There is also some suggestion that he was attracted by some proto-Fascist tendencies that were socially fashionable in that period. None of this was very unusual in British Establishment circles in the 1920s-1930s. As to why he ended up in Schellenberg's "Black Book" arrest list, well, as far back as WWI, the propaganda/social solidarity advantages of the Scouting movement to the British war effort was recognised by those in power in the UK. Presumably, the SD were worried that the Wehrmacht might be "dib-dib-dobbed", or even "ging-gang-goolied" when they landed in Surrey ... a terrifying thought, indeed ! Best regards, JR.
