Hi Inday, well, since you asked, I went and performed another quick Internet search. What I found was certainly clearer than my find - a lesson regarding how you use key words in a search engine, I guess ;) Anyway, I don't especially trust Wiki as a source, but I did find this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II_casualties#Human_losses_by_country -- I'm sure you can do a little more checking. Anyway, this site indicates Filipino civilian deaths ran between .5 and 1 million. It also suggests China suffered 20 million total casualties -- with a range of civilian deaths being between 7 and 16 million (!) That's quite a range, so I'm not sure how much I'd trust it - especially coming from Wiki....

Totally Agree with you JR. I especially admire the Filipino Scouts: tough hombres.

Ardee, yes, must have been a typo. That having been said, I would not for a moment detract from the heroism of the people of the Phillipines in resisting foreign domination. They had, after all, made a pretty determined effort to throw off US domination at a slightly earlier period. Many Philipinos now live in my neck of the woods, and I am acquainted with my fair share of them. They are wonderful, friendly, and determined people, and that shows even in these (relatively) more peaceful times. Their sufferings under Japanese occupation, their struggle against it, and ultimately their victory over it, are deserving of our respect. Not that I believe you would think otherwise. With best regards, JR.

At least for the Filipinos, I did a quick check on the Internet and found a chart which seemed to indicate the entire population of the Philippines in 1940 was only about 16.3 million. The chart's format was not clear and clean, but that's my best read, and your number does seem awfully high....

The Chinese people of World War Two were good and faithful allies of America. The French Vichy Government in Vietnam let the Japanese come into Vietnam as they had in Germany. Then they continued in positions of government allowing the Japanese to continue their war. How many Filipinos and Chinese died fighting with us? They are truly heroes often forgotten heroes.

This is no "Nippon Air Force", but P-40 of American Volunteer“s Group (Flying Tigers) in China probably 1942.
