Rommel was a brilliant General who fought the western allies from German advance on Dunkirk to Normandy invasion. Given the fact he faced a foe who was numerically supperior in men and resources, he did exremely well to contain them as long as he did.

ok to all you that think he was not a good commander... just shut up cause if it was not for him i would not be here. i am one of the few german jews that my grand parents were able to get out of germany after the war started and Rommel got them out so ...

On the eastern front they had battles SO big they made D-Day look like a training excercise. This is where the best generals were. Rommel wasn't there, he fought the allies and we made him bigger than he actually was. He was good but wasn't the best.

In all fairness Hitler had several hundred generals. Rommel wasn't the best. He came in around 10th place. The best was Mainstein and the other were all on the eastern front that we know little about.
