Default Small arms & artillery Q & A (Medium level)

All right, a section for the small arms and big guns lovers, the same directives as the others two.

Technically correct, but I've never understood how an SMG got to be designated as a carbine.

    R. S., this was simply British nomenclature. It is a carbine (because it is shoulder fired and has a short barrel), it goes rock and roll, hence "machine", hence "machine carbine".
1884 electric cartridge. Look similar to anything?

    MOS

    Thanks.

I've always understood the derivation of carbine to be from the shorter longarms developed for cavalry from infantry weapons, and assumed it would be applied to WWII weapons in the same way. Such as the Lee Enfield .303 jungle carbine.

Looks surprisingly like a Ballester Molina 45 ACP.

They were made somewhere in South America.
