Or an anti-tank mine dog attraction, which would be rather silly as the Soviets were using the anti-tank mine dogs and this would encourage the dogs to run into their own lines (rather like they did in action after being trained to run towards Soviet tanks, with unfortunate results).

So, the cat is either another piece of ill-considered Soviet animal weaponry which stays within Soviet lines and defeats their own objectives or a clever device designed by Soviet scientists to run towards the German lines and draw the mine dogs to the Germans.

In which latter case the cat is not a double agent but a poor, innocent Soviet dupe.

Upon reflection, I think it is a calculated insult to the Germans.

There is a phrase in German which (forgive any mispelling) I recall as "in der nacht alle katz ein grau", meaning "at night all cats are grey". This expresses the same idea in English about congress with ladies that "they're all the same with the lights out" (I know from personal experience that this is not true as once when I turned the lights out an unusually aggressive lady said "You touch me and you're dead.", but that is not important here.).

So, the Soviets are sending over a grey (or 'gray' for our American members ) cat to remind the Germans that there aren't any women in their lines and that this is the only pussy they'll be seeing for a long time.

Which suggests that, as Nick pointed out, the cat is actually a committed NKVD operative.

Well , actualy there is a piece of true, all the pets in Stalingrad were in subordination of NKVD.Dogs mines the tanks ( and searches the spies), cat's were busy with special mission behind the frontline, cockroaches and rats shared the diseases among the enemies . Even our NKVD mikes desperative attack the ... germans electrical circuits and wires.

I suppose that there was Soviet co-ordination with the other Ally airforces when bombing the same city or Germany proper? You don't hear much about that since USSR was on opposite border of Germany. And what about offensives? Did USSR co-ordinate offensives along with the western Allies? Or just go their own way?

Wow, if only my pets were so loyal. They seem to like the person with the food at the time.
But, that was very clever Chevan, I like that "total war".

I have no idea how reliable these unreferenced statements are, but I hope they're true. They're so stupid they could well be.

    Cat Bombs:

The most creative way to use a cat as a weapon happened in World War II. The United States' OSS (Office of Strategic Services, the precursor of the CIA) needed a way to guide bombs to sink German ships. Somebody hit upon the inspiration that since cats have such a strong disdain of getting wet and always land on their feet that if you attached a cat to a bomb and drop it in the vicinity of a ship, the cat's instinct to avoid the water would force it to guide the bomb to the enemy's deck. It is unclear how the cat was supposed to actually guide a bomb attached to it as it fell from the sky but the plan never got past the testing stages since the cats had a bad habit of becoming unconscious mid-drop.

Not to be outdone by its predecessor, the CIA also attempted to use cats but this time as a bugging device during the Cold War. Although a disaster as a guided bomb, the CIA thought that a cat would make the perfect covert listening device in a project known as Operation Acoustic Kitty. They attempted to surgically alter the cat by placing a bugging device inside him and running an antenna through its tail. The project took five years and $15 million dollars before the first field test hit a slight snag when the bugged kitty was released near a Russian compound in Washington and was immediately hit by a car while crossing the street. The project was ended soon after.

As i know there was a certain Soviet-ally co-ordination. The last bombing of Berlin was in april - accurate prior the soviet general offencive. When the battle of berlin was strated, allies stop all the bombings raids over Berlin. So we may say for sure the soviet and american A-20 never faced each other over Berline.
But as i know the dozen aircraft incidents has happend between the Soviet and Allies fighters though..
