Please excuse the private message, but I felt it wise for me to explain a couple of things.
I am in no way "anti-Russian". I have met and known for years several Russians, and other eastern Europeans.
I have found them to be decent and good, honest, honourable people.
Yes, there were elements of Soviet era history that I found disturbing.
Yes, early Soviet industry was built up from imported American factory machinery, purchased by a Soviet Government Purchasing Commission, in the mid 1920's, early 1930's.
Yes, there were Russian vehicles that were licensed copies of American designs, just as there were German copies of what were basically the same designs.
NOT every Russian vehicle was a copy of an American vehicle, no more than was every German vehicle.
Russians did produce their own designs also, and I would never debate that point.
Finally, as I have said in various threads, I Do make every effort to keep a sense of balance in these matters of history.
