Last weekend, the Bundesvision Song Contest took place in Germany. Think of it as a National Eurovision Song Contest more popular with the German Youth than the 50+.

Don't confuse it with something like 'American Idol'. The people who take part here are usually all already established artists.

The winner was Peter Fox with his Berlin-Anthem 'Schwarz zu Blau' (Black to Blue). If you ask me, the song starts a bit abrupt, but once it gets to the first chorus, I really like it.
English lyrics underneath.

Coming out of the club
Was nice,
Smelling like booze.
I'm wasted,
It's a nice life.
Steppin' over alcohol corpses,
That rot in my way,
I see the rats that fill themselves
In the shadow of the Donair-shops.
Stomp through the puke by the Kotti,
Junks are hazy,
Fellas gob around, misbehave.
Scene-*****s on a desperate search for the scene.
Pierced girls, who want me to read the 'Strassenfeger' [a Socialist-newspaper]

5:30 my eyes are burning,
Step on a guy who sleeps next to dead pigeons,
Hysterical ladies shriek and panick,
Because at the corner there's trouble between Tarek and Sam:
Tarek says: "Shut up,
Or I'll punch you in the face!"
Sam is scared shitless, but can't say anything.
The red soup drops on the Asphalt,
I get sick, I close the jacket, it's too cold.

Good Morning Berlin,
You can be so ugly,
So dirty and grey.
You can be so beautifully horrrible,
Your nights devour me.
It's probably the best for me,
If I go home, and sleep in,
And while I walk through the streets,
Black slowly turns blue.

Tired Figures in the Neon light,
With deep wrinkles in their face.
The early shift remains silent,
Everyone stays for himself.
Frustration comes up, 'cause the bus doesn't come...
And everywhere there's shit,
You'd almost have to float.
Everybody has a dog,
but no one to talk to,
I always breath through my mouth,
It's a part of my life.
I feel sick, I need something pure against it.

I have a thick head,
I need a juice,
I have a strong urge for Baghdad's pastries,
There it is warm, there I'll surrender to my dreams,
With Fatima, the cute salesgirl.
R'n'B Ballads sound out of a parking Benz,
Finishing time for the street gangs,
A hooligan lies in a woman's arms and cries,
This city isn't as hard as you think.

Good Morning Berlin,
You can be so ugly,
So dirty and grey.
You can be so beautifully horrrible,
Your nights devour me.
It's probably the best for me,
If I go home, and sleep in,
And while I walk through the streets,
Black slowly turns blue.

I am wasted,
And rub out of my eyes
your dirt.
You're not beautiful, and you know it,
Your panorama's deformed.
You don't even look nice from a distance,
But the sun is rising,
And I know, if I want or not,
That I need you to breathe.

Believe it or not, the lyrics actually make a little bit more sense in German ;)

The Artist, Peter Fox (born Pierre Baigorry) is a popular German singer and songwriter, and spent most of his childhood in Berlin-Kreuzberg, a lower class area notorious for its high crime rate. It was the main inspiration for the song.
He's also one of the three singers of the Reggae/Dancehall band Seeed, which sings in both German and English. (Good song to look up from them is 'Ding')

Hope you liked it.

PS: If anybody knows a way to embed the youtube video in the post, please tell me. I tried the normal embed code given on the site but it wouldn't work.

Sounds like a reggae and is not supposed to be understood, but its interesting video and not bad what so ever.

It is partially Reggae/Dancehall. But it is supposed to be understood and actually really easy to do so when you speak German ;)
