I am working on a new scenario for Russian Front, an old Avalon Hill game from the 80s. It's a fantastic game and there is still a community of gamers that play it. A couple have created map extensions to include the Caucasus and Berlin so Grozny and Baku are now on-board objectives and the game can be extended into 1945.

I'm retooling Fall Blau into an introductory scenario using the map extensions for the Caucasus. It's been a ton of fun pulling out the counters and map and replaying this great game!

Anyone else still enjoying board games covering WWII or other eras?

I like playing A&A, but its really complicated, and my dad and I are the only ones who play it.

Axis and Allies? Complicated??? It's a classic beer-and-pretzels game!

Which version are you playing? We play the world-wide version.

I've played every version except the very latest. But I've seen the latest one and it never struck me as complicated....

I love it i usually play as the usa or the sov union

The SU is the most fun in my opinion. I only with they and Britain could mount a co-op assault like the UK and the States... If I could, Norway would have gone down.

Yes, the Soviet Union is the hardest and a little more fun. If you can withstand the initial German strike, you have a good chance. Another way is for the SU to mount a kind of "suicide charge" and reduce Germanys strength for a good while. This helps to be able to build up defensive forces.

Or if you can contain the usual first attack against the territory with Leningrad in it, you can flank the northern most German position, and it gives you a nice base of operations for attacking Norway.

I've had my share of wins and losses at this game. That's what makes it fun.

Until I got into miniatures, I was playing a lot of Avalon Hill, SPI and GDW. Blitzkreig and Squad Leader were particular favourites. Then there was a lot of book gaming. Then I started painting more than gaming. Now I don't even do that.

I'd like to get in on the miniatures games. For now, I'm stuck with classic board games

I still like Risk lol

No shame in that, my friend!

Hahahaha yeah she has one but you don't want any of that lazy/fat/greedy/stupid/selfish/steeling bitch. Sorry but that's what she is. I lost my car keys the other day and found them a few days later at her apartment even tho I never went there before...

Back on topic, my g/f loves RISK. :)

A&A is something of a hybrid between risk and monopoly; I like it because of the diversity of units

I love Axis & Allies. I have an original and a first edition Eurpean version. My bro has first and second Pacific. We play often. A freind owns a hobby shop, has latest European. You can put the two latest versions together to make one truly epic game. Has, of course, the Soviet Union, Germany, Brittain, Japan, and U.S.A. But also includes France, Italy and I think Poland. It's not as simple as Monopoly, but it is easy enough. I also really enjoy A&A minis. It's not nearly as complicated as other tabletop games so most all of my friends will play it with me. It's fairly tactical and easily adaptable. I've developed a couple of scenarios myself.

The last two years I've been engrossed in Breakout Normandy & Montys Gamble Market Garden. Dabbled in a number of other tactical games.

I used to love playing the 4th edition of Third Reich and Squad Leader. Sadly, I haven't played any of these games for many years now--I've been too busy.

Yep, mines collecting dust too. All my nephews grew up and moved away.... they're the ones I usually played against.

Don't make the mistake of throwing it away. Life has a funny way of finding you new opponents, even if it is 10, 15 or even 20 years later!

I play a couple of games with my grandsons, ages 13 and 9. Mostly they like Xbox and Playstation, but they like my old board games too. I've got Dogfight, Broadside, & Stratego.

@ garm1and: maybe you should trim his sails?

Those old American Heritage games are fun -- I still have those, plus Hit the Beach. Haven't played them in years -- lack of opponents.
