Was part of the hurricane made out of wood or was it completely metal?

Yep, as far as I understand the entire inner framework was metal, and the outer skin was metal at the front and canvas at the rear, with the wings being a mixture of both...

The Hurricane took much longer to construct than a Spitfire, but it was easier to repair...

Hawker Hurricane was a fighter of an era, between the biplanes and sleek fighters.
-It could not evolve from its original chassis and thus was not used as a prime fighter after opening years of war.(but it could be used as ground attack roles which kept it in its wings)

It had a very thick wing structure which slowed it down, and engine had a habit to burst into flames after a hit, thus earning a nickname of `tulipallo´(fireball).

And much cheaper than the Spitfire.
Hawker learned nothing from making the wing too thick, they did it again in the Typhoon, which turned out about 100km/h slower than Hawker expected.

Great thread thanks Clave.

I'm very interested in the Hurricane. Stumbling upon your post motivated me to join the forum.

Cheers

I recruited someone?! :D

I'm just a new boy myself, but I try and drop in every now and then, there is a lot of interesting stuff to read, and I haven't even scratched the surface...
