all 5 died on the USS Juneau. which sank during the battle for Guadalcanal.

Nope, the story is based on Sgt. Fritz Niland, a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne, was successfully returned home from Normandy after the death of his two brothers in Normandy invasion and the MIA status assigned his third brother in Burma (subsequently returned alive).

There was a movie made about the Sullivan brothers,and its influence is apparent in the movie, i hear that there were a couple lines lifted right from SPR's predecessor
