I just wanted to express my feelings after the match between Poland and Portugal :)
I don't remember when was the last time that Poles played so great and beatiful football, it has been the best match of our national team I've seen for long, long time!
It took only 18 minutes to demolish their team ;)

First I was thrilled with horror, then I started to laugh :)

Congratulations! ... but i won't take the car to visit Poland
We once met Polish Soldiers and a friend of mine (he comes from East Germany and learned some Polish and Russish) was talking to one of them - later i asked him about what they talked about and he answered: "I asked him if he saw my car somewhere across the borderline" ;)

According to google translator - only needs some minor corrections:

LOOKING S 6th ETAZHA This operation prishivaniyu "Russians" to "zapadentsam" Big sport has long become an instrument of high politics. The champions of objectionable countries could deprive medals or cancel their exploits through doping. And, you can eliminate the border between Poland and Ukraine at the European soccer championship. So sports politicians sending "orange" part nezalezhnoy unequivocal message : "Hloptsy! Europe with you rather than against moskalyami! "" Coloured "seems to have rallied. Because the message from Europe was well-timed : the Ukraine near the Constitutional Court was the battle of the commando unit "Berkut", and the presidential seat under Yushchenko voting and skripelo. Poland is loyal dog chain USA and the European Union, ready to pluck and pulling all those who have any sympathy or Russia respects the interests of UEFA also received uvesistuyu bone. Poland has long zaglyadyvaetsya to western parts of Ukraine. And in the 1920s last century, even pobrezgovala they occupy, which does not like to talk, and if she reminded immediately behind Katynyu as a shield. Now, if Poland is once again foundation for different things delishkah type of "professional" opponents to foreign countries, she happily prikroetsya soccer ball. Mol, preparing soccer, cultural exchange and humanitarian bridge of friendship. But that is all the details, the main schedule. It is true that every month lived in patovom "oranzhevo-sinem" crisis, which has lasted since the Kiev-2004, increasingly aggravates the division of Ukraine "Russian" and "zapadenskuyu". Finals will be desperate to make glue them together, of course, under the wise leadership of the West. The ball will flock in the geopolitically important cities : in "moskalskom" Donetsk and "banderovskom" Lviv. Is there anything in those cities normal stadiums? Will they take thousands of fans? Politicians from UEFA these issues uppermost little. It seems that the Western allies "orange" projectiles to diplomatic heavy artillery ran out and their guns, they now gives football bowling. The following video is football. :D

It's not a game that travels well. The only international competiton is with Ireland, in a game with the weirdest combination of rules from two games that really don't have anything in common, apart from Ireland supplying most of the convicts who established Australia. The Micks (white tops) got a bit unhappy after the last couple of years' games and won't play us any more. They say we're too rough. Can't see why. :D

Gotta say my favourite is the Aussie in the first Irish international video who gets put down on the run by the Paddy and comes up into immediate attack; pulls the Paddy's jumper over his head; puts him down; and tickles him a bit before casually walking off. Quality play! It encapsulates everything we value down here. :)

I don't get it.

Was he hit by the flare? what are the actual run up to the event?

Not wanting to stir this up in to a hornets nest.

Was Marradona in any way punished for his "hand of god"? I know little was done internationally.

Or was it let go on the grounds that the ref didn't see it? And the notion that "cheating is part of the game".

Panzerknacker
08-04-2007, 10:23 AM
Rojas simulate all the way, the flare hit the ground at more than 2 meters , but he trown himself to the ground and put the flare next to his head like if was hit.

Another video filmed with a home VCR show it well, after analizing that the FIFA banned Chile from the 1990 and 1994 WC.

No.

Or was it let go on the grounds that the ref didn't see it? And the notion that "cheating is part of the game".

I dont think so, there is national teams that have played beautiful footbal and without cheating and also won. Argentina included.

1000ydstare
08-05-2007, 05:57 AM
I never said they didn't Panzerknacker.

However, it has been said by many teams that they see "bending the rules" as part of the game. Esp if they get away with it.

Whilst the goaly in your vid may have taken it to extremes, it is now seen as "part of the game" to roll around on the floor like you're hurt, to deliberatly attempt to get the ball back to your side, waste time towards a win for your team, or stop the game to counter a fast and deep breakthrough by the opposition by allowing your team to get back and regroup.

My take on Marradonas goal has always been, and not because he is an Argentinian, that it was a very large breach of the rules and etiquette.

A sportsman would have admitted he hand balled the goal, a penalty would be taken, game on. There is nothing to say Argentina wouldn't have won anyway. They were a strong team that year.

I sure as anything wouldn't have unveiled a plaque of his hand celebrating cheating to victory.

A suitable punishment to Maradona also would have been a ban for WC, maybe just one. The team itself was not at fault.

If you compare to Rugby, a sport which Argentina also plays, there seems to be a great deal more respect to the referee from the players and less attempts to "bend the rules" in order to win. Partly because the refs in rugby are supported in their descions (not portrayed as villans for rebuking a popular player) and because the rules are strictly enforced the players know their boundaries and do not push them.

Where did the blood come from on the goalys shirt?

Tevez completes Manchester United move times Online and Agencies

Carlos Tevez has completed his move to Manchester United according to his agent, Kia Joorabchian, ending the most complex and long-running transfer saga in English football history.
The impasse betweeen the players' representatives and his club, West Ham United, was finally overcome last night when Joorabchian agreed a compensation package with the Londoners, who will be paid £2 million to end the dispute in exchange for the club releasing the registration of the Argentina forward.

Tevez met his new team-mates today, with the last hurdle to the completion of the transfer being overcome just after 1600BST when it was ratified by the Premier League.
“This will lead to the cancellation of Tevez’s registration, thereby releasing him to join another club in due course,” a league statement confirmed.

Joorabchian, who fronts Media Sports Investments (MSI) and Just Sports Inc (JSI), the companies that own the economic rights to the player, confirmed today that he has withdrawn the writ issued against West Ham last week in an attempt to force the club to release Tevez.
A statement issued his behalf said: “We are delighted that a settlement has been reached between all parties to secure Carlos Tevez’s move from West Ham United to Manchester United.
“The agreement brings an end to the legal proceedings started by us against West Ham United in the High Court last week. Our primary concern has always been to resolve this issue amicably and to allow Carlos to pursue his ambition to play for Manchester United.
“Carlos is looking forward to being a Manchester United player and his ambition is close to being achieved. We would like to thank Manchester United for all their patience and support throughout.”
West Ham said in a statement: “West Ham United can confirm that a settlement has been reached today with the representatives of Carlos Tevez which will allow the player to leave the club.
“The settlement ends the current litigation taking place between the respective parties and provides for a £2 million fee to be paid to West Ham.
“The agreement confirms that West Ham do have a valid player’s contract with Carlos Tevez and hold the registration of the player. This will be released once the agreed fee has been paid to the club.
“The terms of the settlement are consistent with undertakings given by West Ham United to the Premier League and the rules of The Football Association.”
West Ham chairman Eggert Magnusson was relieved the affair has finally been concluded.
“I am obviously pleased that we have finally reached the end of this saga through agreement and common sense," he said.
“All parties involved can now move on and truly focus on the new season. I wish Carlos Tevez well for the next stage of his playing career. He is a fine player and I am sure he will be successful wherever he plays football.
“Personally, I am looking forward to the next stage of our development as a club and for what I hope will be a very exciting new season in the Premier League.”
Sources close to Joorabchian confirmed Tevez passed his medical in Manchester this morning before visiting the club’s training ground to meet his new team-mates and United officials.
Tevez will not be involved in Sunday’s Community Shield game against Chelsea at Wembley - but will begin training over the weekend in preparation for the start of the new Premier League season.
Tevez has agreed to move to United for an initial loan of two seasons, with a fee of £10 million payable to MSI and JSI and the option of buying him permanently for a further £20 million. He will earn in excess of £3.5 million a season and is expected to make his debut against Reading at Old Trafford on Sunday week.

I actually predicted an outcome (positive for the italians) by dubious referee decision. It's hardly unprecedented when italians are involved.
If any employee would make as many mistakes as professional football referees he would be fired in a minute and many of those mistakes are so obvious that the ref or his assistants cannot seriously claim "didn't see it that way". My personal guess is, that there are more match fixes in pro football than epo users at the tour de france (percentage based).

Well, the Italians always play "a little dirty" not too much but enough to win, before the last year world cup some first category teams go to the B league for "fixing" encounters.

Begining from that fact, everything smell suspicius to me when Italy plays.

Well, referees decision is final. But Scotland made the Italians look like just another side and not the World Champions so I am proud of my team. We have gone from 65 to 16 in the world rankings and for the 1st time will be seeded in next weeks World Cup draw. Which means that we will have a chance as we wont be drawn with two teams like France and Italy again. So hopefully we will be at the next Cup!

Also hopefully England will get through and so will Norther Ireland, it will be good to have some UK participation in the Euro Cup.

Fabio Capello England glory will cost FA
By Henry Winter

Last Updated: 8:10pm GMT 15/12/2007

[/URL]
Fabio Capello's mother believes it will be "a bit difficult" (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/main.jhtml?xml=/sport/2007/12/15/sfneng115.xml#comments) for her famous son to guide England to glory at the 2010 World Cup but his new Football Association employers clearly differ. As well as a basic salary starting at £4.8 million a year and rising sharply, Capello is on a multi-million-pound bonus to turn players who struggled to conquer Andorra last season into world-beaters within 800 days.

England's Capello called 'two-faced' (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/main.jhtml;jsessionid=AAU3YUYWYSN5TQFIQMFCFFOAVCBQ YIV0?xml=/sport/2007/12/15/sfneng215.xml) | Capello: I want respect, but not by fear (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/main.jhtml;jsessionid=AAU3YUYWYSN5TQFIQMFCFFOAVCBQ YIV0?xml=/sport/2007/12/15/sfneng315.xml)

FA insiders argue that Capello's remuneration is competitive for the "world-class" coach the organisation craved after the dog-days of Steve McClaren. Capello's starting salary is less than Sven-Goran Eriksson earned with England, but it spirals markedly upwards and will cost the FA £26 million if the Italian stays until Euro 2012, averaging around £6 million a year. The deal agreed between Capello and the FA, which led to his appointment as England's head coach at 5pm last night, has a 10-day cooling-off period after the World Cup when either party can walk away. If Capello proves a failure on the road to Johannesburg, the FA can cut their losses easily.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/graphics/2007/12/14/uxcapello214.jpg (javascript:newWindow('http://link.brightcove.com/services/link/bcpid1138275681/bclid1318910527/bctid1343247659','Brightcove','menubar=no,width=92 4,height=710,scrollbars=no'))FA confirms appointment (javascript:newWindow('http://link.brightcove.com/services/link/bcpid1138275681/bclid1318910527/bctid1343247659','Brightcove','menubar=no,width=92 4,height=710,scrollbars=no'))According to Soho Square sources, on top of this £26 million package are the salaries for his all-Italian back-room staff. The FA will pay £1.5 million a year in combined wages to Capello's assistants, Franco Baldini and Italo Galbiati, his goalkeeping coach, Franco Tancredi, and the fitness coach Massimo Neri. On top of that are generous bonuses for qualifying, reaching the semi-finals and winning a trophy. If England prosper under Capello at the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012, the total cost to the FA could touch £40 million, which the governing body of the English game will insist is a justified outlay.
First he has much work to do, beginning on Jan 7 when he assumes office. For such handsome remuneration, Capello must bring tactical discipline to the England side, solve the Steven Gerrard-Frank Lampard conundrum, instil confidence in a goalkeeper, and find the ideal striker to spearhead his preferred 4-2-3-1 formation.
The Fab Controller, as Capello has been dubbed, comes with a reputation for turning raw material into a durable unit capable of sustained prominence.
"Fabio is a winner," said the FA's chief executive, Brian Barwick, who still hopes Capello will include an Englishman on his staff. Stuart Pearce is expected to stick with the Under-21s; other names possibly in the frame to learn under Capello include Alan Shearer, Tony Adams, David Platt and even Aidy Boothroyd.
Dino Zoff: Capello will grab chances to win (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/main.jhtml;jsessionid=AAU3YUYWYSN5TQFIQMFCFFOAVCBQ YIV0?xml=/sport/2007/12/15/sfneng415.xml) | In pics: Capello's career (javascript:var newWin=window.open('/core/Slideshow/slideshowContentFrameFragXL.jhtml;jsessionidAAU3YU YWYSN5TQFIQMFCFFOAVCBQYIV0?xml=/sport/gallery/football/capello/upixeng.xml&site=Sport','Slideshow','height=570,width=750,resi zable'))
Jim White: Capello's mum says he can forget privacy (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/main.jhtml;jsessionid=AAU3YUYWYSN5TQFIQMFCFFOAVCBQ YIV0?xml=/sport/2007/12/15/sfnjim115.xml)
The men who will work with Fabio Capello (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/main.jhtml;jsessionid=AAU3YUYWYSN5TQFIQMFCFFOAVCBQ YIV0?xml=/sport/2007/12/15/sfneng515.xml)
Clearly a class act, Capello deserves every chance to succeed, a point made by Sir Alex Ferguson yesterday.
"Hopefully, he gets the support he needs," the Manchester United manager said. "It is not going to be an easy job. There is a tremendous pressure on the English coach, which Fabio will understand when he is two minutes into the job. The national team manager should be experienced, have a good CV, a presence and be the right age. Fabio Capello has all those things. He will command the respect of the players."

Happens occasionally in the german cup as well. Happens when you don't respect your opponent and take them lightly, like Getafe, it was a shame bayern managed to luck their way into the semifinal at all, 110 mins against just 10 and the spanish were the better team. I'd rather have seen Getafe vs. Petersburg. You won't see too many germans unhappy they lost, though, they're generally not very well liked here.

USA vs. Argentina Officially Announced for June 8

March 27th, 2008 | By: Carter Daly (http://usa.worldcupblog.org/carter-daly/) | 6 Comments » (http://usa.worldcupblog.org/friendly/usa-vs-argentina-officially-announced-for-june-8.html#comments)

The long anticipated announcement of the USA vs. Argentina friendly slated for June 8 at Giants stadium was finally announced today (http://www.ussoccer.com/articles/viewArticle.jsp_5898240.html).
This friendly will cap off what is shaping up to be an amazingly challenging friendly schedule for Bob Bradley’s boys who are preparing for the start of World Cup Qualifying.

After waxing Poland on set pieces 3-0 Wednesday, the USA Men’s National team looks ahead towards friendly matches in England, Spain, and back home for Argentina.
Suddenly I don’t hear the groans about the American’s cupcake friendly schedule.

This upcoming schedule of world powers was a sharp move by the federation; as all three of these teams are a thousand times stronger than anything the Americans will see in qualifying, save for maybe Mexico. But, we have seen how they have fared in qualifying tourneys recently.
By the way, the new USA away kit might be the nicest in the history. Just thought I’d throw that in.

I am not talking about Poland in particular but the former Yogoeslavia countries, the ones separated from USSR and the so called "European" Turkey. The annoying part is that countries occupied places for qualification and in some cases they cualified actually for important cups and achieved nothing.

And I am back to the England case...to have a Eurocup or even a World cup without the most classic and historical footbal powers ( and I am not saying Britannia is a world Power in football today, she clearly isnt) is boring, and somewhat discouraging...unless you are from Turkey or Moldavia.

Does anybody is fancy to see a World Cup without Brazil or Argentina...? that is my case.

In my opinion, these "powers" are not playing in Euro or World Cup, because they simply don't deserve it. And I cannot see anything wrong if other countries without any successes in football will try and do their best.
And what about the Champions League?
We have to watch still all the same gigantic clubs which posses fortunes.
Any other clubs from minor countries without milions in the bank don't have a chance to compete with them.

Maybe the Euro and World Cup is the only opportunity to provide such chance to supporters and players from these countries?

P.S. Personally, I'm fed up with watching Brazil winning all the time ;)

Obviously they dont deserveit if they didnt reach a good level of points, the mathematics is fair enough.

"And what about the Champions League? We have to watch still all the same gigantic clubs which posses fortunes"

I think that is a multinational display, not only from the country wich is the Club from, I mean look at Arsenal FC. 90 % of the players are foreigners.By the way we destroyed the tortilla eaters last night.

There is a proverb in germany: I'll try to translate it. What does it matter to the german oak, if the boar scratches its hide on it.
The unbelievably big inferiority complex the polish continuously display towards us is actually quite amusing. That's what actually annoyed me in this tournament. That the team seemed to be the first german team in history that didn't really want, at least it seemed. They played like crap yesterday, not worthy for a final. They obviously never really found the rhythm you need for such a tourney.

Had anybody heard this one ?

Argentinian football legend Diego Maradona has been unveiled as the manager of his national team.

Argentina's greatest ever player will be asked to inspire its latest generation

The 47-year-old's appointment was confirmed by Argentina's 1986 World Cup winning coach Carlos Bilardo, who will assist him as director of football.
"The idea is to return the squad to the spirit of 1986," said Maradona, who was widely credited with singlehandedly winning football's greatest trophy 22 years ago.

With no top level coaching experience, he has warmly accepted the help of his former coach.

"I am going to listen to everything Bilardo has to say. He is going to help me as we can't leave someone with the success, experience and knowledge he brings on the sidelines.

"My job will be to go and watch the players as often as possible," Maradona added.

For the ones living in UK:

Maradona set to be in charge for Scotland friendly

</EM>
Argentina legend expected to fly to England this weekend to meet with Tevez and Mascherano

George Burley is all too aware of the abilities Diego Maradona possessed on the pitch. It was 29 years ago that the Scotland manager was part of a defence run ragged at Hampden Park by the teenage prodigy and the two will pit their wits against each other in Glasgow again next month, but this time from opposing dugouts. Maradona marked his 48th birthday yesterday by announcing with a characteristic flourish that he expects to be confirmed as coach of Argentina next week and his first task will be to oversee the friendly against Scotland on 19 November.

It was in June 1979 that Maradona, aged 19, scored the first of his 34 goals for Argentina having bamboozled a home defence that also included Alan Hansen. It accelerated an international career that peaked in 1986 when he lifted the World Cup and he remains fêted in his home country, making his imminent appointment as national coach one that, although a surprise, has been welcomed.

"We could not have a better motivation than having Diego as a coach," said Carlos Tevez last night. "I'm very happy for him. It's going to be funny. I hope I can get a seat close to him on the bus. I'm imagining myself training under him."
The Manchester United striker, though, also gave a hint of the problems that lie ahead for the new coach. "I think he'll want to come on to the pitch with us," said Tevez. "I know him very well and I'm sure it'll be that way. Managing a group like ours isn't easy, as we're all key figures for our clubs. It won't be easy when he has to tell me, Roman [Riquelme] or [Lionel] Messi that he needs us all together all weekend when we want to see our families.

"He must have an idea of how he wants the team to play. Now that Diego's the coach, he should think more with his head than his heart. I don't think it'll be easy because I know his temperament."

The appointment is still to be ratified by the Argentinian FA, but it seems certain to be nodded through at their next meeting, scheduled for Tuesday. Before then Maradona is expected to be in England this weekend to meet Tevez and Javier Mascherano
"We have to start working as quickly as possible," said Maradona at his home on the outskirts of Buenos Aires yesterday. "We are going to play the game against Scotland with the best team we've got. I scored a goal there, on a tour with [Cesar Luis] Menotti [Argentina's manager of the time]."

Maradona, initially seen as a rank outsider in the contest to replace Alfio Basile, will take over a side that is – once again – struggling to match the sum of its parts. Basile resigned after defeat by Chile earlier this month. Argentina lie third in the 10-team South American World Cup qualifying group, ahead of Chile on goal difference. They must finish in the top four to qualify while fifth place would mean a play-off against a Concacaf team. Argentina still have to host Brazil, as well as making trips to play Ecuador and Bolivia at altitude.

It is a tough job for a man with next to no experience, let alone success, as a coach. He had two short stints in the dugout, in the mid-1990s with Deportivo Mandiyu and Racing Club. His 23 games produced three wins. "I really never expected this although I always dreamed of having the chance," he said yesterday. "I'm really looking forward to it."

Carlos Bilardo, coach of Argentina's triumphant 1986 team, is expected to become general manager, marking a return to the national team set up after an absence of 18 years, and has been involved in talks with the Argentinian FA this week.
"Maradona is going to be a big influence," said Burley. "I'm sure all the players will want to play well in front of him. It promises to be a cracking game – it's fantastic for us to pit our wits against a top team. When Scotland played Argentina in 1979, it's always a game I remember for the fantastic players they had. And, of course, somebody like Maradona, who I still think was the best player I ever played against."

The Scottish Football Association had feared that the high-profile friendly would, embarrassingly, not sell out. That is unlikely to be a concern

Thats because you think that the UK is one nation, its not! We in Scotland can love the English at the same time as jovially chastising them. Its a complicated thing that basically means that although we are all British, we also like to revel in a national identity.

After all the UK Monarchy is German! How Ironic is that!!!!
