Great game, a must have if I look at the screen shots. I wonder if it would come out on PS2, that would be great. I would not be able to play it, I do not have a graphics card :( .

I am thinking this game is only available to play online against other people. I dont think there is a stand alone first person mission based version but i'm not completely sure.

I think he meant when they start selling it in retail stores (much like they did with DoD:S).

I don't know, it'll probably be a while since I just now saw the DoD:S CD's at Wal-Mart.

As soon as I have some spare money, I'm going to buy it. My friend has it and he played it during the LAN party I was attending. He says it takes a while to get used to, but it's fun.

No, but it all else fails, just purchase it through Steam; if you have a broadband connection. I have dial up so I had to buy the actual CD. It's a great game though even with just the bots. I am an expert iron sights sniper :D

If I can remember correctly wasn't this game originally a mod for the Unreal Tournament game? So if you have Unreal Tournament can't you play this game for free?

Pita
12-28-2006, 04:29 AM
Yes it was a mod, but no sadly you cant play it for free, only the old mod version.

Now for some blatant advertising :D

I'm a member of Iron Crescendo a Red Orchestra: Ostfront Tournament, we play battles for territories each weekend, 6 hour battles every saturday and sunday to be precise, and we have a lot of fun doing it. Generals purchase upgrades for their armies before clashing with the enemy and plan strategies in our barracks/forums. We love strategic gameplay, and there is no responsibility when you join, it is NOT like joining a clan, you play when you want to, and you don't have to show up.

You really should join, it's a fantastic experience, we use TeamSpeak

http://www.goteamspeak.com/

to coordinate our efforts on the battlefield.

Here's the link, the main site is down for now, so you cant register right away, but ask in the "tech forum" for help:

I guess this thread was pretty dead, but oh well. RO:OF is worth it! This game is one of the most realistic WWII games out there. There is a single-player, but its is only against bots with no storyline. But this is still a challenge. I have 56K, so online play is rough, but I never get tired of taking Berlin from the German comps. The CDs are out, as you prbably guessed. I got mine on e-bay. If you go this way make sure that the last owner unregistered their CD key first!
I highly recomend this game to anyone interested in WWII. One of the best buys I've ever made.

Hi Churchill, I can send you a invitation to the game, so you can play 10 days for free.
If you decide to buy it I can tell you where I got it from for 10 pounds (free delivery).
Send me your e-mail adress via PM.

Thanks mate. Is the demo a download, or an interned operated game?

Kovalski
11-09-2008, 01:26 PM
You download a full-version which is active for 10 days. After that time you will be asked to enter the security code to re-activate the game.

Ok, I've just sent the invitation. Join the "steam" and dowload the game.
My nickname is "broda". I'm playing almost everyday so we should meet somewhere on the front ;)
If you got any question, send the PM.

Pozdrawiam,
Kovalski

Thanks. I'll download it next weekend, since this one is almost over and I don't want to waste some of the time I can play it.

I'll probably play as Jonny Sniper, like on the BF1942 free demo.

Hi,
i have problem with Darkest Hour mod (Mare Nostrum works fine!). I'm installing DH public beta2, it's installing fine, and when installation is complete i'm marking "launch DH" click on Finish and... nothing! I tried to launch it by Steam, but normal RO is starting. And i cant run DH by any shortcut. Later i installed Beta 1.a, patch it to 1.0b and... it works! But... when i want to start game again later RO again is launching... I've tried to connect to server on 1.0b version, but auto-upgrade takes too damn long... Any ideas what the hell is going on?

Kovalski
11-18-2008, 12:17 AM
I didn't know there is such a mod. Steam sent me up-date about Mare Nostrum only. I'll try to install the DH from http://www.darkesthourgame.com/ when I get back from work. Hope it will run.

Kovalski
11-18-2008, 03:01 PM
I've downloaded the version from that website. I was directed to a polish fan-site where I got the file from. After installation, when I double-clicked on the DH icon, the Steam was initialised and from that moment the DH is in Steam games menu.
So I launched it and it worked.
Still, I didn't join any multiplayer game (lack of time) but tried the practice session. There was no problem at all with running it.
I have no idea why it is not working at your PC :(

Cezar
11-19-2008, 05:17 AM
Maybe i'll try reinstall steam and everything. If it not going to work either... Well, damn it ;)

11-22-2008, 03:02 PM
Any effects?

Cezar
11-22-2008, 03:11 PM
Nope. Same thing. Everything works fine on 1.0b. That's really strange. Mine PC config handles with newest releases on highest resolution, and something is f****** up with that mod  Thats a shame, but i still have Mare Nostrum and basic RO. ;)

Cezar
11-25-2008, 04:59 AM

Rising Sun*

Topic full of insults

This thread is not full of insults.

The only insults are the mild one by NotaBolshevik which has been dealt with by a moderator by an informal warning, which was the appropriate moderator action; the extreme one by stevey which has been dealt with by a moderator by awarding an infraction point, which was the appropriate moderator action; and your unwarranted and baseless imputation that there is not 'a real mod' amongst the current moderators, which I am now going to deal with, by appropriate moderator action.

... where is a real mod.

I note that in your profile you have this visitor message.

Please explain to me Second Lieutenant Hanz Lutz,

You are using my grandfather's picture as an Avatar in:
http://www.ww2incolor.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3152
You do not have the right to use him as an Avatar, you ask who am I? I'm his grandson you was name after him, his full name and rank is: Major Von Josef Jaeger. I have the original pictures of him and his men, even a picture Furher who awarded him an Iron Cross for his bravery and courage. Please delete his picture as an Avatar, only the museums have my permission to display his photos. I hope you can respect my wishes, I thank you for your time

Sincerely,
Retired US Army 82nd Division Sgt. Von Josef Mata

So, as I am a real moderator and you are not the real Second Lieutenant Hans Lutz, I require you to explain to me why you should be permitted to retain your avatar.

Consider this as an informal warning from a real moderator, who is most unimpressed with your gratuitous and utterly wrong criticism of all the moderators on this board: Unless you have proper grounds for criticising moderators, don't.

Your insult to all current moderators immediately after the caution from another moderator, Nickdfresh, demonstrates a flagrant disregard and contempt for them. So here is another informal warning from a real moderator: Do not disregard moderator's cautions, warnings and advice.

And here is yet another informal warning from a real moderator: Don't make absurd assertions such as 'topic full of insults' when patently it is not, whether as a basis for unfounded criticisms of moderators or of any other members.

And here is some advice of a general nature: People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

And here is some more advice of a general nature: When you have stuffed up and don't have a leg to stand on, it is best to apologise and make amends rather than dig the hole deeper.

Now tell me why you should be allowed to retain your avatar, and do it in light of the informal warnings and general advice I have given you or you will find that not only am I a real mod but that I can be a decidedly unpleasant and harsh one when confronted with a member conducting himself as you have done.

NotaBolshevik

Im not Russian. I just made that my username, dont get mad cause ur side got anally raped.

You chose to ignore my informal warning about provocative posts.

You need to grasp that when a moderator gives you an informal warning you are being given the chance to correct your behaviour and to avoid steps being taken which could lead to you being banned from the forum.

The only reason I am not imposing a sanction on you is because another moderator beat me to it, and has taken the first step on the road to you disappearing from the forum.

Change your location from 'not USSR' to something less provocative - and don't come up with some smart arse alternative -, and do it quickly. There are Russian members on this forum who would not appreciate it and, in view of your stupidly anti-Soviet attitude, neither do I.

NotaBolshevik and stevey:

1. Do not pursue your squabble further.
2. Stick to the topic and conduct yourselves properly.
3. Neither of you will be allowed any tolerance if you misbehave again.

Look Rising Sun

I am think on that guy stevey14/88 he insulting or i am blind?

That is entirely irrelevant to your conduct, which is what I am dealing with.

So mod's now have attacking position here

Don't be so bloody precious.

You chose to insult the mods, which is completely unacceptable behaviour on every forum.

I have responded to that.

Like it or lump it.

i am been here and posting here before you

So what?

Length of membership doesn't exempt you from the rules.

i have this avatar 3 years i send Firefly and Dani on PM that link. ...
That member who tell that he is a grandson of this gentleman i dont know it did you know for sure, i send PM on FIREFLY and ask what to do i dont broke ant rule.

I accept that explanation.

It is a pity that you didn’t confine yourself to that aspect, which was the only response I sought from you.

Mod's dont attack why you feel insulted in words in my post,i am soory if you feel it like this.

Your words were perfectly clear.

After I had dealt with the insulting posts by two other members, and after another moderator had cautioned members against further misbehaviour, you posted

“Topic full of insults  where is a real mod.”

The only possible interpretation of that is that you regarded my and the other moderator’s performance as inadequate, and by implication that of all other moderators on the board.

I don’t feel personally insulted by your comment because I couldn’t give a stuff what you think about me, but as a matter of board discipline such comments cannot be permitted.

My english is s..t i know.

No, your English is fine.

Now you’re just trying to hide behind a claimed lack of English.

It’s your attitude that is shit.

I hope you've had fun humiliating me,

No, I haven’t, because I wasn’t trying to humiliate you. It demonstrates that you have a very thin skin if you think my comments are humiliating. If you’re humiliated by what I said, you’d implode if I really tried to humiliate you.

we will se what admin have to say on that.

Congratulations on digging your hole deeper.

I specifically cautioned you against digging the hole deeper because I could see that you were the sort of person who would do it.

You realise that by taking it to admin you force admin to choose between, on one hand, supporting your supposed right to criticise mods for their perfectly correct standards of modding and, on the other, upholding the unquestionable power and right of mods, on this and every other forum, to deal with members who insult mods.

It should be a no-brainer for you to work out which way admin has to go.

You just can send me a PM to solve this.

I could, and I could reply by PM to your PM, but I won’t, because I think it’s important for other members to see how these things are handled rather than taking them behind closed doors when it gets awkward for one of the parties to the dispute. It educates members on what is unacceptable conduct, plus justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done, and all that.

If you have any common sense you would not pursue this issue because it cannot improve your position. But as you’ve started digging the hole deeper, you are probably unable to stop until you hit rock. That could be a painful collision, so I’d urge you to drop the shovel now.

A pity you didn't follow your own advice.

I've given you plenty of leeway in view of your long and unblemished membership, but as you're determined to keep insulting a mod after being informally warned several times not to, I am now giving you a formal warning to stop insulting mods.

Ignore this warning and you'll get an infraction point or points.

You should be grateful that I'm dealing with you and not a former moderator who would have banned you by now.

Now, for Christ's sake, grow up and realise that you'll be the only loser if you keep this up. I don't want to impose sanctions on you, but if you continue on this course I will, which could lead to you being banned.

Your future on this forum is in your hands, not mine.

I suggest that you don't post for a few days and try to calm down in that time.

Be aware that you have had all the leeway I am going to give you.

And Hans Lutz was the real:

http://www.military-art.com/mall/profiles.php?SigID=876

Johannes "Hans" Lutz was real, right, although his mini-bio in your link is loaded with factual errors, just like your sig. His rank was Lieutenant when the war ended, he was Lieutanant Colonel ("Oberstleutnant") of the Bundeswehr when retired in 1976. He was never part of Parachute Forces.

In 1944 he transferred to the 166th Panzer Division on the Western Front

It was actually the 116th Panzer-Division. A 166th never existed. OK, let's call this one a typo.

...and was awarded the Knight's Cross for his actions during the Ardennes Offensive.

Wrong, he was awarded the Knight's Cross on December 9, 1944. Exactly one week before the Battle of the Bulge was launched.

Hanz Lutz is one of the last surviving Knight's Cross holders from this battle.

This info is mouldy and needs an update. Lutz died on August 26, 2005.

Anyway, as RS* mentioned we should hereby put this issue to a rest, along with the other latest causes of friction.
Back to original topic.
