ww2adim congratulated us on the effort we have put forward. However I must say that it is the site members that have made it a great year for us. ww2admin has more than done his job advertising the site. I would like to say that it is the normal members that have made it great. I look forward too the new year with new membesr that are interested in discussing WW2.
We are a work in progress and in the future things will slowly but surely impove. Please bare with us.
Anyhow Merry X-mas and happy new year to all.
One more thing is that I hope to get usergroups going! At the moment the only successful one is the 101st Airborne. If you have a good idea (and som people) for a usergroup. I will be more than happy to create it. It is my hope in the future that we can have competions between the usergroups.
Looking forward to the new year and all that each can offer.
Thanks,
Gen. Sandworm.

We get rank from how many posts we post. I do not think we need to hand out medals.
What about a medal for someone who brings a truely unique and unheard of info to the site?
For example there is a lot of good info coming out of HGs "weird and wonderfull (but non-war fighting) aircraft" thread or what ever it is currently called. Is this not worthy of recognition?
Rather than who can post the most drivel? Which is the one thing a medal for 5000 posts would encourage.
This medal would encourage people to search for new and interesting info, back it up (that would be stipulation) and bring it forward.
Let us not forget that there have been people on this site whose idea of a post consisted of this....
:D
or
or
etc. etc

I still maintain that these things are silly. I also still maintained that the use of genuine medals does a great disservice to those who rightly earned them in real life, especially when applied as a "loyal member" or "good post" member and awarded for drivel.

I think Stoat has a point though with using Medals that already exsist.
Whats wrong with someone designing new site medals? Its only a coloured rectangle after all?

How about little gold stars? Once you have more than say 5, we could put a different coloured background behind, and you could start to earn them all over again.
It wouldn't use existing medals, which is a little bit disrespectful in my humble opinion.
Personally I agree with the ideea of new medals.
I still have a single question. How comes that using ranks (real ranks) doesn't bothered you?

LOL, its not 'frikin McDonalds in Colour' either. I do think that we could have our own site medals though, if they are made up wheres the disrespect in this?

Probably because he (like I suspect the majority of military types on the forum) is from the UK. I haven't seen any of those rank insignia yet which correspond to UK ranks. Slightly parochial maybe, but I suspect that's the reason.

OK but the medals ARE Americans and not British. Why a US rank or a US rank insignia is OK but a US medal isn't?

well, i was looking for german, english, US and russian rank during ww2

As Ive said in another room. The rank is tied to posts and cannot be helped, the medals are awarded and need to be opted for.
No big deal really!
Would guys here put up medal ribbons specifically designed for the site, yes or no?
Or should we have a poll?
Hiddenrug

We should poll it. If we don't its gona end up in shambles mates!

I don' tknow about any one else but the rank is something many people have earnt. It is not as exclusive as say the Medal of Honour.
Lets have a poll and see if we can invent our own ribbons?
The rank can stay. Is there any one with objections to it?

The rank setup is something i dont feel comfortable changing. Awards maybe...............but if we decided to make are own then.......well one its alot of trouble. Two I would say if you get one you must wear it. Simply put dont make a mountain out of a molehill unless your prepard to climb the mountian.

If you dare! :D
Another idea I had is what about a new medal for those who have actively been involved in the site for each year. So for instance FW-190 would get an award for 1 year of service. Obivously ww2admin would be the 1st to get the award since he was the 1st member and none of us would be here without him.
Of course not everyone is going to get the award if they havent been around most of the time since they joined. Plus like anyother they would need to be recommended.
Thoughts?
That sounds like a good idea to me to give the members medals for the time/year they are on the forum.

Thats fine with me. Please dont overload our forum with members that think they know alot about ww2 just coz they have played CoD :D
How can I get a medal.
You have to be recommended by someone. Then the mods and admins decide on a case by case basis. Most are awarding unless there is some kind of outstanding issue or problem.
Can you become a moderator.
Yes. As the site grows we will need more mods. Right now we are pretty comforatable with the current staff. We try to focus on many different thing.......some outside the board. Biggest mod problem at the moment is spam. And of course the out of hand arguements that appear from time to time. This (THANK GOD) is less of a problem these days. The staff usually decide on who will be the next member.........mostly based on conduct, contributions and how often they appear on the site. Lenght of time here plays a role as well.
You can also become a Super mod and an Admin. ww2admin is permanent. But if I were to decide ive had enough of this job I would recommend my replace me to him (at the moment the Super Mod Dani) then if he approves then Dani will choose his next Super mod and people get bumped up the later. So thats the low down. Just might add that it can be job like at times dealing with this and that..........complaints, idiots, spammers and also always trying to improve the forum. Sometimes is nicer just to be able to solely focus on talking about ww2.

;) Permission to speak, General Sandworm, Sir. I know I am but a lowly Corporal, sir, and unworthy of even kissing your shiny boots, but it sounds like you could use a break. This Forum of a War, (or is it a War of a Forum?) can really wear a great man such as yourself down. Why don't you switch wars for the night and go on over to the Swamp for a while? I hear Honeycutt and Pierce make a mean martini.

No I am not. I am perfectly aware of what people thank of me. I have changed what I was doing. I have changed. It's when I joined the site I was intersted in ranks so that is why I did that. Please forgive me on my actions. I am now putting more thought and consideration to my posts.
