Flags of Our Fathers is coming out next year. It tells the story about the American men that fought in Iwo Jima. Its directed by Clint Eastwood, so thats going to be interesting as it is. 8)

Now heres the REAL twist........Clint Eastwood will also be directing another movie which will be coming out next year called Lamps Before the Wind. This movie will ALSO be about Iwo Jima. However this movie will be about the Japanese men that fought in Iwo Jima. I dont think anyone has ever done that before, making 2 movies realeased in the same year about the same event in history, but getting both sides of the story.

As a matter of fact this movie is already done, and its in the phase where its getting its finishing touches. The movie should be released in theaters by Spring 2006.

"Lamps in the Wind" will start production around February 2006 and "Flags" will not be released until late Fall of 2006.

I thought it was coming out sooner. Oh well. Im still excited for this movie. Its going to rock!! :wink:

I heard a rumor that there is also going to be a TV Mini Series like Band of Brothers, following a group of American soldiers through the Pacific Theatre...

Apparently this is rumoured to be released after "Flags of our Fathers", if so I imagine there will be a lot of renewed interest in the Pacific Theatre.

Long time since any posts from this one.............Just watched both Flags of our Fathers and the other side of the conflict Letters from Iwo Jima. Both good movies. However I still feel there is something missing from them.

i agree with germansoldier, great movie, GREAT PORTRAYEL, and , i would like to ask if anybody has seen letters from iwo jima, (its from japenese point of view)

Flags wasn't that great. Felt messy and way to much flashbacks/jumping around in time. Didn't like it.

Letters from Iwo Jima was simply breathtaking though. Amazing. Can't wait to get it on DVD.

Letters from Iwo Jima are about the Japaneese's point of view. Has this already been in theatres and ready to come out on DVD? Please tell me.

yes, letters from iwo jima has came and gone from theaters, its ready to come out. i dont really know when it'll come out on DVD

I heard it is in Japaneese language. Is that correct or not? Boff on your post about Flags of our Fathers had too many flashbacks. I totally agree with you. I wished the whole movie had action. Then again one of the Flag raisers son wrote it.

Plot Outline The story of the battle of Iwo Jima between the United States and Imperial Japan during World War II, as told from the perspective of the Japanese who fought it.
Plot Synopsis: The island of Iwo Jima stands between the American military force and the home islands of Japan. Therefore the Imperial Japanese Army is desperate to prevent it from falling into American hands and providing a launching point for an invasion of Japan. General Tadamichi Kuribayashi is given command of the forces on the island and sets out to prepare for the imminent attack. General Kuribayashi, however, does not favor the rigid traditional approach recommended by his subordinates, and resentment and resistance fester among his staff. In the lower echelons, a young soldier, Saigo, a poor baker in civilian life, strives with his friends to survive the harsh regime of the Japanese army itself, all the while knowing that a fierce battle looms. When the American invasion begins, both Kuribayashi and Saigo find strength, honor, courage, and horrors beyond imagination.

i think letters from Iwo Jima will be a lot better than Flags of our Fathers as far as action goes. For me, the more fighting action the better. LFIJ (letters from iwo jima), however probably cant beat the storyline of FLOF it was a very interesting storyline though you have to admit

Yah Letters is all in Japanese (expect for one scene, which is a flashback of Kuribayashi in America).

I think had Flags been all in order it woulda been good though

I saw and very much enjoyed "Letters". I saw it on a Hollywood promo dvd....much too small. I would have loved to see it on the big screen, but with such movies it wasn't out very long. I guess they have to keep the theathers filled with the crap that makes the big buks!

Thanks for telling me what language it is guys. I do not like flashbacks in World War 2 movies. There were too much in Flags of our Fathers. Hopefully there is not as much in Letters from Iwo Jima.

Its NOTHING like flags dont worry. There is a couple flash backs but none very long. They work very well too and helps build the characters they are talking about.

Ok, thank you for telling me that. It helped me alot on figuring out if Letters from Iwo Jima would have alot of flashbacks.
