There has been rumours that theres a contest between China and India!! to compete in becoming the next dominant World Power!
I could believe China could be a threat to u.s.a losing their place of being the world police but when i heard India, i thought it was proposterous, but even with indias poverty it is quite a populized country and powerful, they are just being secret about it while the whole world can see that China is expanding rapidly.

LOL  , but the USA will remain the world power, India is more of a 3rd World Country, and China, well they have a serious overpopulation problem. SO USA WOO HOO!! :D Btw we have the most mobile and best trained Army, Airforce and Marine Corps in the World. Our Navy is only second to Britan but thats because they are an island so they better have a good navy!! :D

Is China really an "empire"?

I'm not saying yes or no, I see arguments for each. I'm just raising that question because I saw that question being debated in a Chinese history forum only a few months ago.

K Russia will probably be around again but for now they are just taking break.

CANADA ???..........well i love our neighbors to the north but I dont really see Canada as a superpower.

Iraq...........uh.............I think they have enough going on at the moment. Isnt there somekind of requirement for being a superpower that involves having towns and cities composed of somewhat complete houses? Notice i said "somewhat complete" coz lord knows that there are parts of Iraq that look ten times better than some places in the US. And we havent had a war here since 1812. :?

For me it will be China. There is a truly worrying situation developing right now.

The Chinese are expanding at a huge rate. Look at absolutely anythin you have bought in the last 3 years and it will nearly always say - made or assembled in China.

To drive this China needs fuel. Mainly oil, and they get that from the same places we do. This has been pushing the price of oil up more than any war in Iraq.

The Chinese have a massive trade credit with the US and the Chinese government has been buying US Bonds with that credit, so much so that they now own a substantial amount (memory fails me, but it may be as much as 1/4). This is a huge sum and as the US is already in debt, the cashing in of those Bonds could do as much, if not more damage than the Crash back in the 30's.

So you dont have to have Armed Forces to be a power in todays world.

I wouldn't. For all their faults, the Americans are much better for the world in general than any alternative hegemon would be.
Oh, and of the two choices in the poll I sincerely hope it will be India. They've got a hell of a lot of problems but for all that they are a parliamentary democracy who govern on behalf of the people. China doesn't count as either, yet they are trying to introduce economic freedoms. That to me is a recipe for internal unrest, which could really put a lid on the current Chinese boom.

They've been trying to get nukes for years, but always back off when they think anyone has spotted anything. The real giveaway is the Brazillian "Space Programme" - horribly unreliable and more expensive than off-the-shelf Russian rockets, but they're continuing with it. Space rockets and ICBMs are of course basically identical in all but a few minor details. Brazil also has several nuclear power stations to provide the required fissile material.

Walther

Any industrialised European country, South Korea, Taiwan and Japan can have nukes within a few weeks if they set their minds to it. All of these countries have the technological base, nuclear power stations to get the material from and the respective scientific and engineering staff.

So many times the US and the USSR almost destroyed the entire world and for what. I didnt rejoice when they feel apart but was finally glad the retarded cold war was pretty much over. The US will fall apart someday down the line thats just how it is. But I dont welcome that to any country. I just think thats a really sad statement you made. If you want to see the look of the distraught why dont you take a trip to Rwanda or something. Take a look at some pics of the people in gulags of your former USSR. Take a look at holocaust pics. i dk about the army, but australia is a big island, and far in distance to the world power,so,if the make military technology, bombs, and a great navy, they can easily protect their country, they just need to distribute more the population and like i said, upgrade their navy and military technology capacity.

itīs relative easy to protect a distanced country, island, and with good demographic level.

Quoted from Firefly's link:
T-90S MBTs are currently being delivered to replace the older tanks.

Quoted from http://www.army-technology.com/projects/t90/
The T-90S is the latest development in the T-series of Russian tanks and represents an increase in firepower, mobility and protection. It is manufactured by Nizhnyi Tagil of the Russian Federation.
The T-90S is in service with the Russian Army and the Indian Army. In February 2001, the Indian Army signed a contract for 310 T-90S tanks. 124 were completed in Russia and the rest are being delivered in "knocked down/semi-knocked down" form for final assembly in India. The first of these was delivered in January 2004. The locally-assembled tanks are christened "Bhishma". The tanks are fitted with the Shtora self-protection system and thermal imagers from Thales of France and Peleng of Belarus.
In January 2005, it was announced that a further 91 T-90S tanks would be procured for the Russian Army.
End quote.

Why not actually learn something about it rather than changing your opinion based on unsupported statements by random people on the internet?
Some of the Indian equipment may be old, but much of the kit the Chinese have is similarly (if not more so) archaic. Furthermore, the Indians have a long history of fighting and winning wars. It was an Indian army that crushed the Japanese in Burma, and they have kept in practice in Pakistan, Kashmir and the like. Oh average, I'd have to say that the Indian troops are better trained and have better doctrine/history supporting them, and generally better kit too.

Quite right.
The Indian sub-continent is home to some of the most martial races on the planet, Sikhs, Dogras, Rajputs, Jats etc. and not forgetting the Gorkhas.
Their performance in the past, in both world wars and in Kashmir etc since, suggest they would be no pushover.

Are we keeping this purely military, in reference to world power?
The economic power of the European states - not a single nation but a world power nevertheless has yet to be realised.

Japan as an economic power is presently underming alot of the markets that the USA used to rely on.

As a Military power India has been booming economically whilst still running wars on two of its northern borders, War will normally create depression for the agressor but not in Indias case.

and if a War were ever to occur between the Chinese and America, after the mutual destruction of one anothers forces I would not be surprised if it was China that got back to its feet most keenly consistently.

can we have some defining characteristcs for "world power" so that we can evaluate this porperly - It is evident in this forum who asks questions to find answers and who asks questions to bless the world with their opinions!!!

while china is certainy an economic powerhouse now, its also a military weakling. its nuclear arsenel is far inferior to america's and it has a no offensive navy. its airforce is poorly trained and fly old aircraft. chinese technology have not yet reached western standards. china relies on copying other technologies/ reverse engineering or simply buying stuff from russia.

the only advantage is the fabulously enormous population, which would provide an endless amount of fodder for a ground war. i believe many of china's army divisions aren't even motorized!!!!!

The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) is the world’s largest armed force with a total strength of 2.5 million men and women serving in four arms—ground forces, air force, navy, and strategic missile force. The ground forces along total some 2 million troops and support personnel, or 80% of the PLA’s total manpower. This force also deploys 8,000 tanks, 4,000 armoured vehicles, and 25,000 artillery guns and multiple rocket launchers (MRLs). In time of crisis, this force can be reinforced by a large reserve-militia force numbering more than 1.5 million personnel and the one-million-man People's Armed Police (PAP).

The structure of the PLA ground force before the mid-1980s reflected operational concepts which envision large numbers of divisions being employed in conjunction with vast paramilitary forces in the defence of China against an all-out attack. The force predominantly consisted of lightly equipped infantry soldiers, supported by tank, artillery, anti-tank, antiaircraft, and engineer units. Their organisations, doctrines and training copied Soviet models.

Well, let's see.
In 1776 you had 13 "states", sovereign nations if you like.
By the 1960's you had 50.
I'd call that pretty expansionist, wouldnt you?
And that's without considering those places which have been under American rule previously, such as Puerto Rico and the Phillipines etc.
As for huge countries not expanding their territories, Tibet might give you an argument on that score (China), not to mention Uzbekistan, and several eastern European countries, now ex-Soviet satellites.

China has nuclear weapons, therefore it is immune from conquest. It can be destroyed (roughly 10% of the US arsenal would kill 90% of the Chinese population, virtually all of their industry and destroy China as a society - what grew back would not be Chinese in any recognisable way).
The same is true for all nuclear powers - they can be destroyed, but not defeated.

I'm not saying it will turn nuclear, just that it would turn nuclear at some stage before China was occupied. That rather limits you to either border skirmishing (and yes a hot war in Korea would count as this, at least to China) or a full-blown nuclear laydown. What you have in between (world war/Napoleonic type) is what is ruled out by the possession of nuclear weapons.

But surely a War with China would not involve occupation of one anothers territory, what possible advantage is there to us having the RGBW dashing about around Beijing when a victory cuold be just as convincing without hte presenceo of ground troops.

Cant we have a nice "cold war" scenario where we play out our global power struggle in some smaller places, i.e. Korea, Taiwan, etc etc

A ground war ultimately serves as a means to destory one anothers forces and leave a victor, but contests for "valued ground" are becoming fewer and fewer. Belgium is not exactly a valuable nation (apologies  ) but it has provided a great venue for some wars over a great many years.

What I was referring to was the difference between a war that destroys an army but leaves the government intact (e.g. 1991 Gulf War) and one that destroys an army and topples a government (2003 Gulf War). The second would not happen to a nuclear weapons power (at least IMOH) due to the risk of them using their weapons. Hence, you dashing around Korea would irritate the Chinese, but dashing around Beijing would quite possibly scare them enough to press some very big red buttons...

At a guess it'll either be a case of no land units (well, maybe the odd irregular one) landing on mainland China with most of the fighting in the sea/air (Taiwan) or the Chinese units involved being "Volunteers" as a face-saving measure to prevent China officially becoming involved in the war (Korea again). I can't imagine a war to topple the government in Beijing simply because they have nukes, making it far too dangerous. On the other hand, nukes do make people think very long and hard about going to war - there are very few cases indeed of a nuclear power starting a war, and those that are (Iraq et al) are often continuations of earlier wars started by the non-nuclear power.

The Chinese Air Force may not have the number of Su-27s to match the US numbers of F-16s and F-18s, but they don't need to. The US can't send every fighter it has to China, can they? And when you outnumber your opponents by a good few hundred to one, quality of equipment isn't all that important.

If America wont involve all of its planes in the war then we presume the conflcit takes place on Chinese soil, I wonder when we made the Presumption that America would be the Aggressor!

Secondly I agree that War isnt necessarily a Military matter. The Selling of Stocks in American companies etc would be damaging, the amount of "virtual" trade and electronic banking that supports the American trade markets is also susceptible to fiddling.

The discussion was about a "world" power not a military power. India is the Worlds largest stable democracy, It has the cleanest bill of health, as it were, of any modern democratic nation. Mahatma Gandhi bought the Indian people their independence without violence through all the official channels, and it was the Indian citizens that administered and ran the Raj in India. consequently they are a much more efficient beauraucracy than many others. Trade in India is huge, Ther ability to do things themselves which was given its genesis under the Raj has menat that rather than buy foreign products they will buy the designs and patents then make them "in country" at much reduced prices. Their nuclear programmes overtook their technical support during the 1980's because of this ability to research and develope quickly.

Economically they govern the subcontinent and an aweful lot of the trade in oil that we should expect from the caucasus over the next few years could quite possibly be coming south through India and Pakistan to reach the ocean. The wealth that we presently see in the Gulf coastal States COULD be seen again in the Indian continent.

HE INSULTS ME WHATS THIS Claus von Dullardberg

Claus, if thats your name.

I wouldnt think that, that was an insult. Your insult, was one.

If you have a genuine contribution thats fine, if you are going to get upset so easily and start insulting people, well thats up to you, but I hope you wont remain long on here if thats the truth.

You need to seriously think before posting any old mush here. Thats when you get labelled as dull and boring.

I am fast becoming fed-up with this childishness. I dont hve enough rank to advise?

Please explain to me the reason for this?

I assume that using the term 'FUCK OFF' is perfectly acceptable then?

If it is I will try and use it in my future posts.

Clutz baby, dont be angry.

You merely had two quotes from your posts provided to you and asked if htey were contradictory, now that isnt offensive. If your posts arent matching up that is your hsit and you have to sort through that, but its not his fault that he saw a gaping hole in the consistency of your argument.

incidentally "Clutz" what is the effective range of an individual weapon when fired in groups of 8 in a practice known as section fire?

Editted to infer he might be IRONMAN-like in his reactionary whinges

Auto-promotion! Is that meant as a negative comment?

Even if I had made 1 post here I still retain the right to advise anyone. I still say that if Clus has a problem with anyone that the best thing to do would be to either talk t a real Mod or think about why people have found his posts boring.

Rank, as in the real world and even more so here is not a measure of intellectual capacity or indeed the ability to be right all the time.

you are far too quick to take offence, you are proud and do not clibm down form correction, your reaction to an observation was not to explain you didnt speak english well it was to hurl obscenities, you are a relative newbie ot the forum and you offended one of the most long standing and easy going members of the old guard, He is I am sure you will notice one of hte members that has valid opinions and information and you would do well whilst new not to antagonise him.

Or many of the others. You are brash abrasive and reminsicent of a cock, though in many ways you are starting to form your own "coquettish" identity.

I hope that clears that up.

being "new" is related to time served and has nothing to do with rank or medals - ask a TA Subby! (me shortly)

Your freedom of spech is for talking on topic, there are certain rules,im afraid you respect them in your army,so,itīs easy to respect the rules of a forum, come on!,you can,itīs not too hard.

Clauss, I give you an informal warning to stop insulting. I received your PM and also I reply.
Bluffcove, if you'll re-read ( :D it's English??) http://www.ww2incolor.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=14697#14697, you'll understand why I start to delete 10 posts of yours.
Thanks and kindest regards.

P.S. Stop ridiculize the names of other users (This is not an informal nor a formal warning - it's just a friendly advice).

Up to now I deleted only four useless posts in several threads. Still six remains. You could delete yourself by hitting 'edit', deleting and writing post deleted.
Thanks.

Edited: Forgot to mention: When a post is deleted, it is substracted also from the count.
