I came across a family photo of my Grandfather in 1942 as he was getting ready to leave the US for WW2 Europe. He is holding my Father (a future 2nd Armored Division Veteran) with his Daughters standing alongside. My Uncle Gene is far right (a future US Army Korea Vet ).

My Father passed away a couple days ago and all I can say is write down any family history that you can while you can because once its gone its gone, military related or not. I just happened across this photo while going boxes of photos that my father had while trying to put together a few photo boards of pictures for his Memorial service that was on 12-31-14.

I was glad to see during the Memorial Service for my Father that my Great Uncle Dale Pence was still getting around at age 92 after losing most of his right leg in France 1944 , I was glad to see that my Great Aunt Marge was getting around very well also she is 91.

While I think that Dad and I discussed everything, I just wished I would have written more down. My Uncle Gene is the last living person on the above photo .

My father with my grandparents and sister on the way to 506th PIR.
He just missed Normandy, but arrived up just after the drop.
He was wounded at Eindhoven and reissued in time for Bastogne.
Gramps went to France in 1917 as did my other grandfather.

Great photo Forager, your father was definitely very busy during the war.

A refresher on Bastogne, link below.

My family has an oddity on mothers side in that one of her uncles (Everett) served during WW1 and another uncle from the same family (William) during WW2. William worked in Alaska on the roads and airfields during WW2.
