View Full Version : Seeking photo of my father on Iwo Jima

I know this is a long shot but nevertheless, I need to try.

Back in 1976 while attending Junior High in Florida, I wrote a report on the battle of Iwo Jima. During my research, I checked out a book from the library and upon reading, found a picture inside of my father.

I don't recall the name of the book and unfortunately, I returned the book. I've Googled what I remember as the caption but have had no luck. Hoping someone may have or recall the image.

The picture shows three Marines on the beach of Iwo Jima. As I recall, the caption reads along the lines of:

"Marines stop to watch the flag being raised on Mt. Suribachi."

My father, Edwin Boss, was a paratrooper and demolitions specialist assigned to the 5th Marines. In addition to Iwo Jima (where he received a Purple Heart), he saw action on Guadalcanal, Bougainville, Vella Lavella, Tarawa, Guam and Okinawa. He's currently alive and has had the opportunity to visit the WWII Memorial in Washington DC thanks to Honor Flight.

I've literally spent years searching online and books for this image. Any assistance would be very much appreciated.
