View Full Version : What did Santa bring you? That matters.

I have cracked the big time.

I got a little tractor. From me to me. And a ride on mower. From me to me. Both old but quite serviceable. Rather like Mrs RS*, although she lacks traction; doesn't cut grass; and is not a ride on. :D

And with any luck, following yesterday's (Xmas Day) storms which caused severe hail damage on all five cars (three of which are mine) in the family and gave us our first white Xmas in my 62 years in this city of infinitely variable and frequently lousy weather, my idea of a late and grateful gift from Santa and a happy new year is getting an insurance payout on the damaged cars which levers me from my current underpowered ten year old 300 hp conveyance into a close to new and, thanks to advances in technology, much more environmentally responsible 425 hp vehicle.

Or maybe I'll just put the insurance money into powering up the ride on mower. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7umL48kH1Q

It's a tiny bit larger than I need ;). Also lacks the pipe laying attachment my little ripper can handle, which cuts out the bloke in your video forcing pipe into the trench http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Ntj0YLrcng

That's only my day job. Not that I wear a white collar more than a few times a year.

My real job is landscaping my new house on a large block, which involves lots of work that a little tractor can do without stuffing up my back, which is currently stuffed and rendering me useless due to shovelling mud on Xmas Day to clear drains so that we got flooded only under the house rather than in it like a lot of people lower down from us.

Even better, as I've recently discovered, tractors have a lot of attachments and the opportunity to design and weld a range of implements to go on them. Plus the whole new world of hydraulics which I knew nothing about until a few weeks ago. Can you imagine how good this is for a man who for the past decade or so could go into a hardware store or tool shop and not see one really good tool that he needs or wants? It's like being reborn!

How'd you cook it?

I wasted a lot of money on a big Weber Q a few months ago, due to foolishly relying upon the advertising, and it can't cook a roast half as well as the Weber kettles or a spit roast.

PK, good to see you're still around. It'd be nice to see you contributing your knowledge to the forum again.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you.

In the most primitive way, Ill show later when ill update my photo gallery, whe dont believe in any foreign grills designs here, a place to make fire and a steel grill to put the meat on it is all we need.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you.

Thanks, same goes for you.

I got the standard assortment of things from my mum and my dad bought me a new pc mouse.
Bought myself some new weights and a pc game Skyrim so if the new years resolution of becoming a babe magnet fails I always have the video games to fall back on.

A cat showed up before Christmas and has taken up residency so does that count?

I got a Kindle E book from the wife. She got tired of me downloading all my military history books on hers. By the way, do you folks know that there are a lot of free military history e books out there? I have been getting a lot of new stuff, especially about WW1 that way right from Amazon, and I also here that there are other tes where they are available. Does anyone else have an E book?

My kids got one for me, it will hold an amazing amount of information, and I won't have to cart around boxes of books when I move from place to place.

Yep, when I found that treasure trove of books I was definitely happy. I am presently reading a book on the "Red Watch" of Canada detailing their formation and deployment to France. It was written by one of their officers shortly after he returned to Canada in 1916 I think. Great book. I just love the E reader, all the books it can hold. Definitely woth the investment for the free downloads. Plus, the new stuff is cheaper that the printed versions. The only thing I don't like about it is the maps and pictures show up poorly, but all in all it works.

Got $475 in gift cards to Home Depot (home improvement warehouse). Won't be able to get my favorites (tools) since our guest bathroom needs a remodeling. Have to spend on tile and materials, and my own free labor...

Edit: Hey PK, good to see you!

She proved to be more of a temperamental pet then a country side ratter but still, I don't think she'd go well with cabbage so I'm stuck with her.

My mum did something very similar when I was 16, she gave me a $200 voucher to Home Depot or Home Base and let me buy what I wanted, when I arrived home with my new tools she had a list of things to be done. She said it was cheaper then a handyman and gave me life skills, next year she gave me a hover on top of the DIY voucher.

My Brother gave me a surrender pass from WW II, descibed by him as used by the reich against the Soviet Army. The images are low resolution, If can send high resolution images by PM to anyone who might like them.
