Hi,

I went to the Diefenbunker museum just outside of Ottawa, ON the other day and thought I'd share some photos I took. It may take a while to load them, so please be patient. I already optimized the file size, so hopefully it won't take too long.
The equipment you see is from the 60's-80's.
I would recommend the museum to anybody who is interested in WW2/Cold War history.

Unfortunately the upload mixed up all the photos, so it's all in random order. The last photo is an MK-4 or Mark 4 atomic bomb. The pictures of the yellow rooms are the decontamination rooms and the paint is lead based. The long tunnel is the main entrance which leads to the 2 ton vault door (picture above the jeep). The picture with the microphones is the CBC station. Also a picture of me in there. The more complex vault door you see was supposed to be the entrance door to the vault used to store gold by the Bank of Canada.

Quite an oppressive ambiance. Certainly not a commendable trip for claustrophobics...

A grand tour indeed, it would make an excellent secret lair for the mysterious Dr. Procyon's sinister Empire.

Apparently at one point, one of the bunkers was sold to an individual, who was approached by the Hells Angels, as they wanted to purchase the bunker. The government quickly bought the bunker back.

Those doors are something else, eh?:D Was there any information on how long people could live in there?

The guide said up to 550 people for 2 weeks. The bunker has 4 levels...it's huge!
