The uniform on this picture looks british. That's all I know.

Can anyone tell me more?

Looks like it could be British type uniform of WW2. But it's unusual not to have any patches at all except the beret shield. And yet he holds what looks like an Enfield rifle.

Where does the photo come from?

Look into the shield on his beret. Doesn't look like a white cross, yellow perhaps. Could it be a Swedish soldier or marine fighting for the allies?

The slant of the hat makes me think it has to be either English or French.

Sorry, only very few information.

The man on the picture, my grandfahter, was born in poland, captured by the german in 1943. When the war ends he was in the "ruhr"-Area in germany - british zone. I have no information, that he was in any army at any time.

That's all.

The cloth badge on his beret suggests that he isn't part of a regular British unit, which normally would have a metal badge.

If you could identify the badge you might be able to work out which unit he was in.

Might just be the photo, but the gaiters seem a bit short for WWII.

While the apparently white gaiters and belt suggest MPs.

Some sort of occupation "constabulary" member?
